My "Sumo Day Jobs" 16-month wall calendar was licensed to Trends International, LLC, the leading publisher and manufacturer of licensed posters, calendars, stickers and social stationery products. The calendar featured sumo wrestlers engaged in a variety wildly inappropriate -- and sometimes ironically suitable -- jobs which they apparently required in order to pay their food bills. The calendar was sold in bookstores throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Among the many creative properties I have licensed to companies nationwide, including Nascar, Marian Heath, Graphique de France, Leanin' Tree, The Mountain and Trends International, the two concepts below -- "Hop Scotch" and "Hotter than Sand/Older than Dirt" -- did especially well at the cash register. In fact, in the first quarter they were available, they sold a combined total of 35,785 units. At retail, that's more than $125,000 in one quarter alone -- for just two cards.
I was not directly involved in the production of this commercial. However, the concept "I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag," which I created, and the copy, which I mostly wrote, were licensed to NASCAR for use by California Speedway, a NASCAR-operated track. "I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag" is a registered trademark that I own for use in all motorsports. Anyone interested in licensing this concept, should contact me at danbbro@gmail.com. Anyone wishing to purchase items featuring this iconic phrase, with a photo of a race car driver robed in a checkered flag, should go to Pledge Racing.
